Turkish victories over the combined forces of Serbia, Bosnia, and Albania 1398 and 50 years later over a combined Hungarian and Wallachian army 1448. The Planin of Kosovo forms part of Serbia and has always been a focal point for any operations in the region. The Serbian ruler was killed during the battle of 1398 and the Serbian Empire came under Turkish rule thereafter After then ISLAM gained popularity among Albanians and Kosovans a majority of people came into the shtter of ISLAM. The Serbians had their revenge during the Balkan War of 1912 when they soundly defeated the Turks in several small engagements in this area and in 1915 it was the scene of the last stand of the Serbian army before being driven from the country.

Since it is largely inhabited by Albanians and bordering on Albania, there have been demands for unification with that country, while in the late 1980s Serbians agitated for Kosovo to be merged with the rest of Serbia. A state of emergency was declared Feb 1990 after fighting broke out b/w ethnic Albanians, police, and Kosovo Serbs. The parliament and government were dissolved July 1990 and the Serbian parliament formally annexed Kosovo Sept 1990. The Serbian invasion brought Kosovo to the brink of civil war.

Present situation that Kosovo is a muslim dominant Province of Serbia. The peoples of Kosovo wants freedom in total but the Serbian one not allowing them liberty and this has caused enmity b/w Serbs and Kosovian. The civil war is continued for the last 2 years and a number of muslims have been martyred.UN and USA and other western countries are more eager and vigilant against Iraq but in Kosovo they seemed to be deaf by ear.No action has so far been taken agains the culprit Serbia.
